AVAST! has acquired Jumpshot, a computer security company founded by Kickstarter contributors.

Jumpshot is a one-stop-shop USB or CD bootable computer repair program designed to help computer newbies fix their computers if they become slow or infected with malware.

It leapt into the spotlight as  Kickstarter project backed by $162,598 contributed by just over 3000 people between July and September last year.

Jumpshot is described by its creators as an “elegantly designed USB stick that cleans and optimises your PC in one simple step.”

Today, the company announced that internet security giant Avast! had bought-out Jumpshot.

Founders Dave and Pedram sent an email to Kickstarter backers, saying:

“Our plan moving forward is to expand Jumpshot’s user base on a global scale and pursue many of our popularly requested features, including our vision for an advanced console – a powerful interface for our technical users.

“We are extremely happy to be able to continue to build Jumpshot now with technical and financial support from AVAST, who share our vision. We are also committed to making the transition as smooth as possible for our users and we encourage you to keep up the good work on our ongoing fight against Grime.”
